With its rich and rural setting, Winchester-Frederick County is nestled between the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains, in the beautiful Northern Shenandoah Valley. Just 75 miles west of Washington DC, Winchester-Frederick County possesses the charming and relaxing atmosphere of a smaller town, making the area ideal for people who work in Washington and Northern Virginia, but dislike the hassles and expenses of city life. Founded in 1744, Winchester is the oldest Virginia city west of the Blue Ridge Mountains and has an extensive history that includes George Washington's first successful bid for public office, the birthplace of country music star Patsy Cline, numerous Civil War Battlefields and much, much more. Each year Winchester-Frederick County hosts the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival; a four-day celebration that includes a carnival, circus, dances, concerts and the Grand Feature Parade. The Festival is nationally recognized and has attracted many celebrities, including Lucille Ball, Bob Hope, Mary Tyler Moore and many others.
